Just the Facts?: Experience Werewolf Hunting -- A Microbial 'Midas Touch' -- Join the Spirit Rescue International Team!

Experience Werewolf Hunting

With the Halloween season fast approaching, there’s probably no better way to get into the holiday spirit than hunting a werewolf in the a pitch black forest of Droitwitch, near Birmingham, along with seven terrified friends.

In the last year or so, zombies have dominated the monster charts, but for this year’s Halloween, the folks at Chillisauce.co.uk have decided to give the all but forgotten werewolf a chance to strike fear into the hearts of men, in their Overnight Werewolf Hunting Experience. If you were watching movies like Underworld, and wondered what it would be like to hunt one of these furry creatures on their on turf, wonder no more, because now you ca experience it first hand, just by heading over to Droitwitch, England, for a real-life overnight event. Here’s the background story for the big night: “Deep in the heart of the countryside, near Birmingham, Farmers have reported unusual losses of livestock, and missing person reports are flooding the local papers. Rumors surfaced of a Special Ops team disappearing 24 months ago – the only clues left were a garbled radio message, and a mangled corpse.” It’s up to you and your teammates to succeed where other have failed – take on the cunning and fierce werewolf and try to outwit him.

You’ll arrive at the Overnight Werewolf Experience site at 2000hrs. You’ll get a warm soup and a sandwich to regain your strength after the long trip there, then it’s time for a short safety briefing and getting geared up. Before you’re pitted against the deadly monster, you and your other seven terrified friends will receive a crash course in basic military training – procedures and weapons training that will hopefully save your life. You’ll learn how to use automatic weapons, handguns and pump-action shotguns, lay out explosive booby traps, utilizing pressure pads and trip wires, and various other tools to help you live through the night. After you’ve completed your training it’s time to head into the night and look for the werewolf.

If you survive the initial scouring part of the hunt, you’ll be faced with the biggest challenge of your mission – werewolves attack your fortified position and you have to hold out long enough to secure the silver bullets needed to take them out permanently. Chances of survival are slim, but if you use what you were taught during the training you have a shot. The Overnight Werewolf Hunting Experience will end at about 2.00 am, and you can get back to your accommodation to get some sleep, or you can stay up and discuss the mission, have a drink and watch a movie. A full English breakfast is included the next day, before you leave. - odditycentral

Mutilations on the Moor

Interesting article by Nick Redfern over at Mysterious Universe: If there is one thing I like to highlight when it comes to cases of a definitive Fortean nature, it’s when they – largely, at least - get forgotten about. After all, it’s vital we keep the old events alive, if for no other reason than to see what we may be able to learn from them. There’s a classic example – for me personally, anyway – which springs firmly to mind and which contains absolute key ingredients of a whole host of puzzles: animal mutilations, Men in Black-type telephone interference and hassle, UFOs, and a wild and mysterious location. It all took place more than thirty-five years ago, but it is an affair that is still talked about in hushed and whispered tones by those involved and those who still remember it...Continue reading at Mutilations on the Moor

Japanese trio 'barbecued and curried victim'

Three men who allegedly barbecued and curried the remains of their victim are being held by authorities in Japan, police said on Thursday. The trio are suspected of using a hammer to dismember Kazuyuki Kobayashi, before grilling parts of his body and getting rid of the remains in mountains in rural Japan, a police spokesman said.

Two of the men had confessed to stabbing Kobayashi three years ago and stewing some of his flesh in a curry, in an effort to hide the smell. Tasuku Shimaoka, 34, Keita Yoshida, 30, and Koji Kawamura, 40, were arrested last week on charges of dismembering Kobayashi, who went missing in 2009, the police spokesman said.

It is common for Japanese police to arrest suspects on lesser charges initially in order to extend the time they are allowed to keep them in custody. Kobayashi's body had been stored in a warehouse refrigerator in Tokyo before being taken to Niigata in the country's north. "The suspects conspired between July and August of 2011 and used a hammer-like object to destroy (Kobayashi's body). They then cooked the flesh on a barbecue grill," the spokesman said.

"They damaged and dumped the remains in mountains," he said, without elaborating further. Reports say Shimaoka owed money to Kobayashi, adding that police were preparing to open a murder investigation. Yoshida has admitted all charges against him, Kawamura has confessed to some, while Shimaoka is maintaining his innocence, the police spokesman said. - AFP

A Microbial 'Midas Touch'

Scientists have developed a bug which produces pure gold.

The team at Michigan State University say that they found the bacteria Cupriavidus metallidurans is able to take so-called liquid gold (gold chloride, a toxic chemical found in nature) and turn it into 24-karat gold.

The process has been named microbial alchemy - and that's exactly what it appears to be.

"Microbial alchemy is what we're doing - transforming gold from something that has no value into a solid, precious metal that's valuable," said Kazem Kashefi, assistant professor of microbiology and molecular genetics.

Unfortunately for the world gold markets, it's not possible to reproduce the experiment on a larger scale because it isn't cost effective. As such while the researchers might be able to take toxins and turn them into gold, they'll still come out behind overall.

The result of their research is actually an artwork, named "The Great Work of the Metal Lover". In features a portable lab in which the bacteria produce gold flakes in front of a live audience.

So it's no panacea for rocketing gold prices...

But the artist-scientist team still claim the installation still impact, because of its ability to "push scientific inquiry" in new directions.

"Art has the ability to probe and question the impact of science in the world, and 'The Great Work of the Metal Lover' speaks directly to the scientific preoccupation while trying to shape and bend biology to our will within the postbiological age," said Adam Brown, associate professor of electronic art and intermedia at the university. - THP

Really tired of the fringe of the 'Bigfoot World'

Click for audio - Sharon Lee Hung Up On Rick Dyer During Radio Show, Then Took A Long Shower Afterwards

I would like to think that people listen to a radio show to hear new information...instead of a continuation of bickering and bullshit from a Bigfoot chatroom. Maybe some people call it 'entertainment'...personally, I call it annoying. Regardless of who the guest is and/or what they believe in, a certain level of decorum is warranted. Is the fringe of 'Bigfoot World' ever going to gain civility? If someone calls into our radio show, I would like to think that we'd be a bit more respectful...not only for the caller, but for our listeners as well...Lon
