Costa Rica: Hums, Booms and Rumblings
The booming and humming phenomena that has been heard in different locales worldwide is now being reported in Costa Rica. This video/audio demonstrates the sound that is being heard throughout the country - THE HUM - SONIDOS EXTRAÑOS EN COSTA RICA, ACOSTA, TABLAZO. The 'hum' is very similar to the sound heard in Kiev, Ukraine and Windsor, Ontario, Canada last year. As well, there have been reports of strange sounds coming from the sky and earth in several locations in South America, in particular Colombia and Chile. I have posted a few of the news reports followed by videos:
Strange Costa Rica Sound – EXPLAINED?
Since early Monday morning just after midnight when Costa Ricans began a flood of reports for a strange audible booming or humming sound, people have been scrambling to explain it.
The local news channels are leaning in the direction of fireworks but many remain skeptical.
The same night at the precise moment the reports began, the Zapote Fair was having it’s closing ceremonies whereas they set off some 150+ high powered fireworks in to the sky.
Now, it’s important to note that the reports of the strange sound in the Costa Rica skies Monday…came from as far as Perez Zeledon – what is the likelihood of anyone in Perez Zeledon, some 170kms from Zapote over the tallest mountain range in the country, hearing fireworks from Zapote? Not likely.
So as the social web lights up like a Xmas tree on Christmas Day…people are still struggling to understand the origins of the strange sound. Was it Earth movements? Not according to OVSICORI the vulcanologist and seismic studies organization. Was it some type of TOP SECRET US aircraft breaking the sound barrier? Not according to The Sección de Vigilancia Aérea that monitors the Costa Rican airspace. Then again it is unlikely they would even spot a stealth aircraft designed in the 80s by the US.
Whatever it was, it certainly was strange.
I myself heard what appeared to be a strange sound more reminiscent of the Kiev video in this post – Costa Rica Strange Sound - at approximately 3am Tuesday morning. I was awake at the time when I heard a deep reverberating trumpet sound in the sky. Now I will be the first to say it that it is fact I live near a highway so it could have been just cars/trucks passing by, however with that being said I would like to hear your thoughts.

Costa Rica: Authorities Cannot Ascertain Source of Midnight “Explosion”

San José (Hilda Miranda – Newsroom). The loud noise resembling that of an explosion was heard by dozens of people around midnight yesterday hitherto lacks any explanation by officialdom.
Neither the National Meteorological Institute (IMN) nor the OVISCORI (Costa Rican Vulcanology Observatory) have any records of a phenomenon that could have been responsible for the loud reverberations.
According to hundreds on the social networks, a powerful report -- lasting more than five minutes – was heard around midnight yesterday.
Reports from readers of La Nación on Facebook suggest that the reverberations were heard in parts of San José and in more remote communities such as Turrialba, San Ramon, Coronado, Heredia, Escazú and others.
According to the IMN, the atmosphere’s behavior in recent hours was normal. “Experts checked the satellite signal and no record of any anomalous situation was found,” stated Mario Sánchez, the agency’s press officer.
Similarly, the Observatorio Vulcanologico y Sismológico de Costa Rica (OVSICORI) informed that there was no record of any strong tremor that could have given rise to the loud buzzing.
Another version that made the rounds held that the explosions were from festivities in the town of Zapote, but the parties in charge of the celebrations dismissed this conjecture.
“The fireworks were normal. We are aware of that noise, but we don’t believe that it has anything to do with the festivities at Zapote, because people heard it in places far from [the community],” said Rafael Arias, an advisor to the San José city hall.
Arias further noted that the closing cannonade was at approximately 9 p.m., but that unauthorized parties discharged a series of “bomblets” around 12 a.m. “But it wasn’t a loud sound either,” he noted.
Some readers also stated that lights in the sky accompanied the loud noise. - Inexplicata

What Caused The Midnight Rumblings? Military Aircraft or Fireworks?
The rumblings and what appeared to be thunder or explosions that awoke many Costa Ricans shortly after midnight could have been generated by a supersonic aircraft, possibly a military plane, breaking the sound barrier as it crossed the skies over Costa Rica.
The Director of the National Volcanological and Seismological Observatory (OVSICORI), Juan de Dios Segura, confirmed the possibility of an aircraft in ruling out any seismic or volcanic activity.
Authorities do not report of any crash or any major explosion.
For its part the Instituto Metereológico Nacional (IMN) - national weather service - reports that "the night was cloudless, with moderate wind and there was no significant cloud formatio or anything that might create the thunder"
The Sección de Vigilancia Aérea (air monitoring service) said they obeserved nothing unusual in their radar, ruling out any aircraft.
The social media sites - Facebook and Twitter, for example - are full of theories and explanations, that include the rumblings were made by the closing fireworks at the Zapote Fair.
Amelia Rueda, on its website, quotes Carlos Villavicencio, of the fireworks firm AVICA, assuring that the loud noise in the silence of the night could be heard as far as Heredia.
Villavencio said that they set off some 150 bomblets starting at midnight and lasting 20 minutes. The fireworks expert added that the same occurred some 15 years ago.
However, many are still skeptical and believe that the noise, thunder, explosion or rumblings were different that those produced by fireworks. And the fact that no flashing lights usually accompanying fireworks were not seen. - insidecostarica
