Spirit Rescue International - The Neath Cafe Haunting
When Irene first spoke to Paul at Haunted Magazine in reference to this case in Neath, Glamorgan, Wales she agreed to take a look at it but her afterthoughts were that the Spirit Rescue International team needed to get to work as soon as possible. We had just finished a few cases with other inquiries in the queue and we were not sure if we could give our full commitment to the magazine’s request. The team discussed this in a conference call and decided that we needed to pull all our resources together. Our motto is “Response – Research – Resolved” and we take those words to heart.
On Saturday August 27, 2011 Irene arrived at the location for the initial interview and walkabout with the client. It was around 8 pm and there was still daylight. Irene’s husband Brian and two friends from London, Barry and Linda, accompanied her to the location.
They met the client at his front door and were led along a hallway to a staircase to the upstairs living quarters which the client shared with his girlfriend and their pet dog. Thankfully the dog had been taken out of the premises for a walk as from what Irene could make out it had the courage and personality of a lion, obviously a good and loyal guard dog. The hallway and the staircase had the appearance of an old building and the feeling Irene received from it confirmed this.
The client proceeded to show them all the places where there had been paranormal experiences. The energy was palpable and it was clear that several time layers had left an imprint on this house. The living quarters had been tastefully decorated throughout in a modern style but that didn't take away that feeling of times gone by. The specific areas where no paranormal incidents had occurred felt comfortable and inviting that is, until they reached the master bedroom.
This floor was originally the attic area and one would think there would not be much activity. It is a well known fact that when an entity wants to keep out of the way of the living, for one reason or another, it will escape to the loneliest and quietest part of the building. Over the many years and different uses of this building Irene suspected it had done just that.
Just under the eaves of the roof there were two bedrooms and a bathroom with a small hallway dividing each. The bedrooms had sloping ceilings which followed the line of the roof. The client and Brian were already in the master bedroom talking about its construction as Irene entered the doorway. She was immediately hit by a strong energy so uncomfortable that she began to feel ill. Her chest felt as if something was crushing it and she struggled to breathe. Her ears felt as if the eardrums were going to burst and her legs felt like jelly. She commented that the nausea was so intense that she needed to get out. There was an obvious strong electric magnetic field, but was it natural (electrical wiring and such) or paranormal? At this point she wasn't going to hang around to find out. The client then mentioned the dog would violently bark and growl to such an extent that it was extremely alarming. What was the dog sensing?
The adjacent room was a guest bedroom in which the atmosphere was not as overpowering. The client explained to Brian that the large flat screen television, which had been securely fastened to the wall, had slid down the wall as if something was holding onto it. There was an imprint on the wall as the television slid and it rested upright on the floor without sustaining any damage!
Having gathered as much anecdotal information as possible for the upstairs living quarters it was now time to go downstairs to the coffee shop which was the business part of the building. Here Irene had decided to do a primary investigation and leave the upstairs for a later date.
Entering this part of the premises it was apparent that this was an upscale coffee shop that was pleasantly decorated and arranged. A large old fireplace with an oak beam running above it was situated on one wall. It would not have looked out of place in the West End of London. The client and his partner had good taste when it came to design. There was a set of steps that led downstairs to a three room cellar that included a tunnel that traversed under the road out front of the building. Several feet into the tunnel a wall had been constructed to limit further access.
Irene had noticed when walking through the main door into the coffee shop the energy of this place was oppressive and had a considerable heaviness about it. It felt out of sync and uneven - as if the whole place was vibrating at different rates and levels. While Brian examined recent alterations of the building, Irene accompanied the client to the cellar. They walked down the stone steps with the client leading the way. As Irene followed behind she noticed the distinct sound of disembodied footsteps behind her!
When they reached the bottom of the steps they turned into one of the three rooms that made up the cellar. From there they moved into the next room. Upon entering this room an unused flexible water pipe that had not been secured and was hanging from the ceiling, began to sway back and forth on its own accord. Irene attempted various tests to recreate this movement that included opening the door to see if there was a draft, physically pulling it herself and even to the point of jumping up and down on the concrete floor nearby. She was unable to recreate any movement. They continued on their walkabout of the cellar and other then catching quick movements out of the corner of her eye nothing else was evident.
It was now time to return upstairs to rig up the equipment and link up with Lon and the team in the USA through the computers and webcams. As this began the client was standing near the counter talking to Brian. As they continued talking Brian started to feel an odd sensation on his back - as if someone was running their hand up and down his spine. Irene moved into the same spot where Brian had been standing and she began to experience the same sensation. According to the client this often happened to him and others working in the shop.
Up until this time Linda had been taking photographs of the shop area in the hope of catching something unusual. Suddenly she let out a squeal because she felt a blowing sensation in her ear. Though this could not be proven as entity provoked or a simple draft it was still the first possible physical contact with the spirits at this location. But there was more to come.
As the evening went on the client decided to turn on the two infrared security cameras in the shop. These were wired to a television screen on the wall behind the counter. Everyone present watched in astonishment as orb after orb made its way in a straight line from the fireplace area across the shop and through the doorway which led to the steps down to the cellar. It was busier then Piccadilly Circus on a Saturday night and for once, although she is not a big fan of orbs, Irene could not debunk this. There seemed to be some sort of organization to it.
Irene decided to take a handheld infrared camera to the stone steps in hope of catching where these orbs were going to on the other side of the door. As she started to make her way down the steps, there were exclamations of excitement coming from upstairs. Up until that time the orbs had been traveling in one direction. When Irene started to make her way down the steps the orbs reversed course and starting moving up the steps! Is it possible that these light anomalies were attempting to avoid Irene?
The team decided to call it a night since this was the initial investigation. They had obtained as much as they could in the way of filming, photographs and recordings and were all feeling the strain of the investigation. The client went upstairs while Irene talked to the team in the USA. They had also heard and witnessed anomalous activity through Skype and the webcams while the on-site team was in other areas of the building. After the equipment was packed away, Irene, Brian and their guests Barry and Linda stood around talking while waiting for the client to come back downstairs and lock up.
Barry was sitting at the nearest table and began to read a newspaper that he had taken off of the magazine rack. Linda was standing at the rack looking at the papers deciding which one to read. Brian and I were checking off all the equipment to make sure nothing had been left unpacked. All of us were no further than four foot apart when all of a sudden a heart wrenching scream came out of nowhere. This always seems to happen when all equipment and computers are off and stowed away!
This scream seemed to come within close proximity to us and up through the floor. It literally sent cold shivers through all of the team. It was an agonizing cry of pain and terror, as if someone was being viciously attacked. Irene wondered if it could have been a recording of anguish from the past or an intelligent entity screaming out for help. A feeling of malevolence suddenly penetrated the room and at that moment, Irene knew that she and Spirit Rescue International would be facing at least one loathsome being at this location.
Irene then remembered talking to the client on the telephone earlier in the week where he described a time when he was in the cellar and the door would not open, trapping him as he feverishly attempted to open the door. Not long after the door locked he heard a scream coming from the shop floor above, even though the shop was closed and locked. As soon as the scream finished, the door released itself and he was able to exit.
When Irene and Brian arrived home she settled down to listen to the recordings. The recordings from the empty cellar produced curious sounds of movement on the floor as well as a few audible sighs. There were other recordings made throughout the shop floor but none produced any discernible EVPs. The final recording was made during a discussion Irene was having on the shop floor with Lon in the USA. This was an example of what we were hoping to capture!
The EVP was so shocking that when Irene heard it her cup of tea ended up on her wall opposite of where she was sitting! Evil is the only word that can be used to describe it. Because of events that have transpired since the EVP was recorded, Irene did not want anyone to ever hear it. She asked Lon to condemn it to the archives where it can do no further harm. We’ll get back to that a bit later.
It is regrettable that the equipment was packed away at the time of the scream. From now on Irene will make sure that at least one recorder is left out and running until the team leaves the location.
This is just the beginning. On Wednesday August 31st, Irene received a frantic phone call from the client. It was evening and the client had decided to go down to the closed shop to relax and read the paper. His girlfriend had not been feeling well so he decided to give her some time alone without interference. He was sitting at the counter drinking a can of Coke and reading the newspaper. This was in the same vicinity where the team had been the night before when the agonizing scream manifested. The client was shocked to hear the same thing himself exactly as they had experienced. It took him by complete surprise and, like Irene’s cup of tea, his Coke ended up going the opposite direction.
Since the initial investigation was now complete it was time for the team to start their research in order to get a sense of the history and discover long forgotten facts about the location. The report from the client did not do this place justice. There was obviously something there that Irene and Lon could not have previously envisioned. The SRI team was looking forward to the second investigation - but maybe not the possible monstrosities and terror it may hold.
Note: The EVP (electronic voice phenomena) that was captured on the final recording was the most impressive and, at the same time, most horrifying we have ever heard. The voice was so clear that it could be classified as an AVP (audible voice phenomena) because several members of the team on Skype actually heard it. The message was “…you’re dead now, bar---“. There were several interpretations by the team and a few other colleagues, but the overall consensus was that the last word of the message was ‘barry’. This was very disturbing to us all…especially a few weeks later when Barry suddenly passed away. We certainly hope this is not precursor of what is to follow, though some of the SRI team has been experiencing an unusual amount of paranormal activity since we started this case.
NOTE: The next installment on the case will include video, audio and photographic evidence. At this point, we have conducted 3 remote view sessions and have concluded that there are at least 5 entities on the location. Other extraordinary evidence has surfaced that indicates that we are dealing with something unlike anything we have experienced previously. Watch for updates here or at Astral Perceptions...Lon

Do Einstein's Laws Prove Ghosts Exist?
Every night, amateur ghost-hunting groups across the country head out into abandoned warehouses, old buildings and cemeteries to look for ghosts. They often bring along electronic equipment that they believe helps them locate ghostly energy.
Despite years of efforts by ghost hunters on TV and in real life, we still do not have good proof that ghosts are real. Many ghost hunters believe that strong support for the existence of ghosts can be found in modern physics. Specifically, that Albert Einstein, one of the greatest scientific minds of all time, offered a scientific basis for the reality of ghosts.
A recent Google search turned up nearly 8 million results suggesting a link between ghosts and Einstein's work covering the conservation of energy. This assertion is repeated by many top experts in the field. For example, ghost researcher John Kachuba, in his book Ghosthunters: On the Trail of Mediums, Dowsers, Spirit Seekers, and Other Denizens of America's Paranormal World
This idea shows up — and is presented as evidence for ghosts — on virtually all ghost-themed websites as well. For example, a group called Tri County Paranormal states, "Albert Einstein said that energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only change from one form to another. When we are alive, we have electrical energy in our bodies. ... What happens to the electricity that was in our body, causing our heart to beat and making our breathing possible? There is no easy answer to that."
In fact, the answer is very simple, and not at all mysterious. After a person dies, the energy in his or her body goes where all organisms' energy goes after death: into the environment. When a human dies, the energy stored in his or her body is released in the form of heat, and transferred into the animals that eat us (i.e., wild animals if we are left unburied, or worms and bacteria if we are interred), and the plants that absorb us. If we are cremated, the energy in our bodies is released in the form of heat and light.
When we eat dead plants and animals, we are consuming their energy and converting it for our own use. Food is metabolized when digested, and chemical reactions release the energy the animal needs to live, move, reproduce, etc. That energy does not exist in the form of a glowing, ghostly ball of electromagnetic energy, but rather in the form of heat and chemical energy.
Many ghost hunters say they can detect the electric fields created by ghosts. And while it's true that the metabolic processes of humans and other organisms actually do generate very low-level electrical currents, these are no longer generated once the organism dies. Because the source of the energy stops, the electrical current stops — just as a light bulb turns off when you switch off the electricity running to it.
Most of the "energy" that any dead person leaves behind takes years to re-enter the environment in the form of food; the rest dissipates shortly after death, and is not in a form that can be detected years later with popular ghost-hunting devices like electromagnetic field (EMF) detectors. Ghost hunters who repeat the claim that Einstein's theories provide a sound basis for ghosts reveal less about ghosts than they do about their poor understanding of basic science. Ghosts may indeed exist, but neither Einstein nor his laws of physics suggests that ghosts are real. - livescience

Yours for £100,000: the haunted lighthouse with great views and a resident ghost
For sale: Converted lighthouse – comes with two acres of beach, fantastic views of the Welsh coastline ... and resident ghost.
The Point of Ayr Lighthouse, near Talacre, on the north-eastern coast of Wales, has been put on the market for £100,000.
But timid buyers should beware – because the tower has a history of paranormal activity.
The most common ghost sighting is of a figure dressed in work clothes standing on a balcony and footprints on the beach below, and paranormal investigators who have visited the property have reported spooky vibes, the sound of laughter and a name being called out.
Among stories about the online about spooky happenings at the lighthouse, Adam Corkill, from Stockport describes seeing a figure of a man up in the top tower, who appeared to be fixing equipment.
However, when the group he was with approached the bottom of the lighthouse, the padlock seemed to be fully locked and the figure disappeared.
Neil Hayden, from Birkenhead, said: “When I was 16 me and my best mate used to go and visit a relative of his in Talacre.
“The occasion that sticks out is one day while on the beach, we saw what we can only describe as one massive footprint, like nothing human size.
“The footprint was pointing towards the lighthouse, and as we stared at each other and panicked, there was an almighty bang on the inside of the lighthouse door, we ran back towards the dunes, and turned round to see someone shining a torch at us, this was about eight o’clock at night, just going dusk.
“Not only did the torch business frighten us but the footprint too, which believe it or not disappeared within the 15 mins it took us to go get a witness. No high tide, no one on the beach and no sign of the footprint being rubbed out.”
Others describe dogs refusing to go near the lighthouse.
Investigations by the Pathfinder Paranormal Investigators recorded strange sounds and unusual lights.
Psychics in the team reported that the spirit of a man called Raymond, who was once a lighthouse man and died of fever and a broken heart, as well as four other spirits may still be connected to the property.
One tale, however, might put prospective buyers off.
Paul Sanderson, from Stoke on Trent said: “My grandparents always went to Rhyl for their annual holiday.
“I was a young boy, my mother had a brother named Jeffrey Moses. He was fascinated by the lighthouse, and he said to my mother one day I will own that lighthouse.
“A few years later it came on the market, and was up for sale, he was excited and thrilled he was going to buy it. Alas, as he put his offer in he became very ill and died in 1966 aged 38. My grandparents never got over it.”
The property, which is being sold through Strutt and Parker, is described as having potential for residential use. However, at the moment the interior is simply made up of several empty floors with stairs leading to the top.
The lighthouse is Grade II listed. It is approximately 60ft high and 18ft in diameter.
It was built in the 1770s by community leaders in Chester, and was one of the earliest “lantern” lighthouses in Wales, according to the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales (RCAHMW).
Its records explain that the need for a lighthouse became a big concern after the loss of two ships in 1775 with the loss of lives and cargo.
The lighthouse continued to shine until 1883 when it was superseded by the Dee Light-Ship.
On the balcony stands a 7ft tall keeper made from highly-polished stainless steel – the result of a joint project between the current owner and Flintshire County Council.
The lighthouse is cut off by the sea at high tides, although it is accessible on foot at low tide. The dunes on which the lighthouse was originally built have retreated inland over the years and it now sits in the middle of the beach.
Although the property comes with two acres of beach, dreams of enjoying sun, sand and sea on your own private beach may not come to fruition as the beach is not fenced off and is accessible to the public. - walesonline
