Dulce Conference Ends / The Dulce Report

Close to 120 people showed up for the first "underground base" conference ever to be held in Dulce, New Mexico on Sunday, March 29.

As an interesting side note, on Sunday morning when it was still dark outside, many guests at the Best Western Jicarilla Inn were awakened shortly before 6 a.m. by a thunderous roar of blades of helicopters above. Local residents nearby reported that there was a rare low flight of two military helicopters above Dulce.

In the afternoon session of the conference, two local residents also testified that they witnessed the military helicopters circling above Dulce and that they passed slowly above the hotel. They told Hayakawa that there are occasional appearances of military helicopters over the town but the flights were never as low as what they saw early Sunday morning.

As organizer and moderator of this conference, Hayakwa several times alluded to an allegation that the government, beginning in the early 1970s and lasting till the early 1980s, may have conducted clandestine operations in the area involving experiments with bovine diseases, anthrax and other substances as part of biological warfare research.

He also alluded to another allegation that there may also have been some illegal dumping or storage of toxic chemicals and other bio-hazardous materials in the nearby areas.

Hayakawa stated that he tends to support a theory that the government may have purposefully created some 'convenient' cover stories (underground alien base concept) to conceal those clandestine activities and may even have staged a series of fake 'UFO-type' incidents in the area, utilizing high tech equipment such as holographic projection devices.

However he also stated that he cannot deny any possibility that there may indeed be some unknown interdimensional phenomenon in the area which happens to be filled with fascinating cultural and spiritual beliefs of the Jicarilla Apache nation.

The speakers at the conference and their main points expressed were as follows:

Edmund Gomez, spokesman for the entire Gomez family who owned a large ranch in Dulce said that their ranch lost more than 17 cows during the height of cattle mutilations incidents and experienced substantial financial loss over the years. Gomez stated that gas masks were found near the mutilation sites and that specific cows were each tracked with phosphorescent markings a few days before the mutilations actually took place. He is convinced that this was done by the government and that no aliens were involved. He asserted that the government was conducting some type of germ warfare experiments. He concluded by stating that there is definitely a governmental underground facility there.

Hoyt Velarde, former Dulce police officer and head of Public Safety Department asserted that he has not located the base yet but it is an undeniable fact that there have been (and still are) many UFO sightings in the area. Velarde even suggested that he is willing to organize an escorted group expedition soon for the public to the top of the Archuleta Mesa if such a request is made in earnest. He surprised the attendees also by saying that another conference on this topic could even be held next time in the conference hall of the Police Department there. Hayakawa said that he may consider this offer.

Gabe Valdez, former New Mexico state patrol officer in charge of the Dulce area stated that he investigated numerous cattle mutilation cases in the Dulce area from the mid 1970s to the early 1980s. He declared that this has nothing to do with aliens but that there is something there that is too sensitive for discussion and refused to further divulge what that was.

Christopher O' Brien, researcher of paranormal activities in the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado asserted that Dulce may be a diversion for what is more importantly taking place in the San Luis Valley just north of northern New Mexico.

Dr.. Michael E. Salla, initiator of "exopolitics" and author of a book entitled EXPOSING U.S. GOVERNMENT POLICIES ON EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE expressed his belief that there is a joint US/alien underground bio-lab beneath the Archuleta Mesa and that this must be addressed as a serious human rights abuse issue.

Greg Bishop, author of PROJECT BETA, a book in which he describes in detail his investigations of the claims of an Albuquerque scientist by the name of Paul Bennewitz, said that Bennewitz was the initial source behind the rumors of the underground base in Dulce. Bishop asserted that Bennewitz was side tracked by an unofficial disinformation campaign to get him to look away from evidence of sensitive military projects going on in 1979 inside Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque. However, Bishop surprised everyone when he said at the end that he is now beginning to doubt his initial doubt about Dulce and concluded that there could indeed be something there.

Gabe Julian, former Dulce police officer who worked under the late Raleigh Tafoya, former Dulce Police Chief described his encounters with three metallic, oval-shaped object hovering at a tree-top level at a ranch in Dulce. He described how he was dispatched to the ranch house of a woman who claimed that small people with strange boxes emitting light were harassing her. Initially skeptical of what his radio dispatcher told him, he drove over to the area and was shaken up when he witnessed those hovering objects there.

Dennis Balthaser, a well-known UFO researcher from Roswell, New Mexico expressed his conviction that there is a US/alien joint biological laboratory and base under the Archuleta Mesa.

Keith Ealy, a researcher with a fascinating interpretation of Dulce as being a space time portal for interdimensionals amazed the audience with his close-up satellite imagery of Dulce Elementary School building. He told the audience that the contours of the parking lot resemble an ancient stone scupture in Bolivia. He concluded that the Dulce area is filled with interdimentional phenomenon, a topic similarly shared by world famous researchers, Dr. Jacques Vallee and John Keel.

Photo: Disk Shaped UFO Captured Over San Francisco

Statement from witness: I was reviewing the photos of my last trip to San Francisco and noticed that a flying object appeared at the left of the City Hall dome.

I had taken other photos (one 8 secs before and another 40 secs later) in the same position and the UFO doesn't appear in them.

I took these photos using a SONY model DSC-W90.

Cannock Chase's 'Hellhound': A Portent of Doom

The Chase’s latest paranormal resident - the fabled Hellhound - has proved a hit all across the world with websites as far afield as the United States chronicling its history.

Last week it was revealed the forest land had a rich history of spooky encounters with the demonic dog, which is believed to be a portent of doom.

The hound, also known as the ‘ghost dog of Brereton’, has been seen on numerous occasions stalking the roads leading into Cannock and Huntington.

And such is the interest in the story, websites such as Paranormal Nights - which runs spooky, adventure theme activities over the Chase and, American-based Creatures of Time, have all flagged our stories on the Hellhound.

Paranormal website Level Beyond has even asked visitors to the Chase to submit any spooky encounters to it them.

They write: “Over the years, Level Beyond has reported on various mysteries surrounding the English town known as Cannock Chase. Besides the alien and bigfoot references, another mysterious creature is said to roam the area: a big, black dog.”

The apparition has been described as a large dog with sharp pointed ears and strangely glowing eyes. The most prominent sightings happened in the 1970s and early 1980s.

While driving through the Chase in 1972, resident Nigel Lea described seeing a ball of light crash into the ground.

He slowed down to take a closer look and was confronted by ‘the biggest bloody dog I have ever seen’.

Within a month one of Mr Leas’ close friends died in an industrial accident, which Mr Lea believed may be connected to the dog apparition.

In January, 1985, Sylvia Everett described a strange misty figure moving across the road as she and her husband drove on a warm and clear summer night. Although they could not explain the incident, Mrs Everett believed that it may have been connected to the dog-lore of Brereton.

Life Inside Scientology Headquarters 'IntBase'

Up until the late 1990's, each person inside received five cards. There's a pay card, a berthing or "housing" card, a chow card, a social card, and, a bonus card. If the production statistics for a worker or their team go down, management took a card or two away.

If you lost your chow card, you had to make do with rice and beans. If you lost your berthing card, you lost your apartment. If you lost your pay card, you didn't get money.

The card system was dropped some years back, but the system of privileges and punishments remain. Workers typically get $50 a week in cash on Fridays. To keep up with management production goals, some work up to a hundred hours a week.

Confidential IntBase sources say internet usage is severely restricted. All letters written inside are read first by the church's Office of Special Affairs. Documents obtained by News Channel 3 state the Office of Special Affairs regularly works with private investigators.

Workers produce E-Meters used by the church, promotional videos and books. Since the workers are given room and board, they're told they don't get paid minimum wage because they are religious workers. Some are members of the elite Sea Organization. These administrative and intelligence workers sign contracts lasting one billion years.

When it comes to security, the spiked fences called "ultra barrier" are no secret. Confidential Scientology security sources tell us they went up after equipment thefts more than 20 years ago.

It's also no secret there's a camouflaged observation post in the hills above. Our cameras spotted it.

When it comes to weapons, this place is loaded. Scientology security sources confidentially tell News Channel 3 as of a few years ago there are:

Eight 12-gauge shotguns.

Six .45 caliber pistols with hollow-point bullets.

One bolt-action .308 caliber scoped sniper rifle.

The guards are not regularly armed - nor have they ever. News Channel 3 is investigating accounts that some guards have been armed on specific occasions. The weapons are kept in safes scattered around the base.

As far as all the cameras, they went up after multiple drive-by shootings 15 years ago.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department began to appreciate the cameras on the roadway.

Every time there was a chase or suspected criminal driving on Gilman Springs Road, the church handed over their video when asked by police and began a close relationship.

There is actually a three way war going on here. There is a group of protestors who often gather outside the gates. There is a group of Scientologists who left this place but still believe in their religion away from the reach of church administration. Those who remain behind these gates do so because they believe they are saving the world. The question some are now asking is: at what cost?

Big Cat Reported Roaming Near Worcester

A big cat may be on the prowl in Worcestershire after two men claimed to have spotted a panther-like creature while walking their dogs.

The men went to investigate but the cat got up, jumped into the undergrowth and disappeared.

The pair spotted the creature as they walked their two whippets and terrier close to the near Bromyard Road, outside Worcester.

“It was definitely a cat but not a domestic one, it was huge, it was bigger than our dogs, perhaps the size of an alsatian”, said one of the men.

“It was jet black and had a tail that was curled up.

“It looked at us, its ears pricked up and it jumped back into the undergrowth.

“It was really chunky and definitely had cat features. It was too agile and quick to be anything other than a cat.”

Bob Lawrence, director of wildlife at West Midland Safari Park, Bewdley, said: “It is possible there may be one or two of these animals around.

“But with the law of averages there would be a picture somewhere. Where is the evidence?”

It is not the first time that big cats have been spotted in Worcester and the surrounding area.

In 2006, a survey compiled by the British Big Cats Society showed there were 48 sightings in Herefordshire and Worcestershire between April 2004 and July 2005, making the county a hotspot for mystery sightings.

Videos: Arizona's White Mountain Apache Reservation Bigfoot

The following videos are from Channel 3 in Phoenix, Arizona in reference to the reported sightings of the White Mountain Apache Reservation Bigfoot. Now, I realize that Tom Biscardi is in this video and his involvement with the Georgia Bigfoot Hoax is still fresh on everyone's mind. Regardless of that, the reports from this particular reservation are very credible. In fact, I have received many emails and phone calls in reference to these sightings as well as other sightings on native American lands for several years. Below the videos, I have re-posted an incident reported to me last year by Don 'Talks With Owl' Campbell who is of Lakota heritage and has been investigating Bigfoot reports by the Hoopa First Nation in Northern California.

I received the following email on November 5th, 2008:

My question to you is 'have I seen something unusual?'

In August of 2006, I was working in Northern California and was interested in finding bigfoot prints. I have a friend who is a member of the Hoopa First Nation. I contacted him and then spoke to an elder. I was taken to an area where some footprints had just been found. Being skeptical, I took my right boot off and stepped down next to the foot print. I am 7' 1" tall and weigh 395 pounds and wear a size 17 street shoe or a size 19 boot (as boot sizes are often mislabelled). I am of Scot and Lakota Sioux lineage and speak a number of First Nation languages.

After putting on my boots, we heard a screaming howl. My friends started saying Oh-mah was coming and we had to leave. My friend Dave told his elder about what I had done and we went back to the site three hours later. There were numerous large footprints surrounding mine and what I believe to be a large finger hole in the middle of my footprint.

I was contacted a couple of weeks later and invited back to the reservation as they normally lose a good portion of their apple crop to Oh-mah but in 2006 they didn't lose anything. They wanted to know if I could come back every year and walk around barefoot to intimidate Oh-mah and if I have any big friends my size.

Oh-mah either saw me with the much shorter native indians and thought I was another Oh-mah or recognized the footprint as a threat. The elder thought Oh-mah didn't want a confrontation with something almost as big as he and left the area.

The Oh-mah footprint was the same length as mine but an inch and half wider at the ball and 3/4 of an inch wider at the heel. The depth of the print was the same.

I have spoken with some so-called experts from the BFRO and from the Bigfoot Discovery Project and got laughed at but then they wanted me to come with them and speak to the bigfoot via bull horn in either native language. I rather not be used by someone who is too narrow minded for me to speak to the kononpaiochis (literally the people of the north who don't comb their hair -- bigfoot).

Sincerely yours,

Don 'Talks With Owl' Campbell

Note: I have been told that the native tribes in this area (Hupa and Yurok) both use the name 'Omah' or 'Oh-mah' translated as 'boss of the woods'.

Third Cattle Mutilation Reported in Southern Colorado, MUFON Investigating

<-- Chuck Zukowski, a field investigator with the UFO Mutual Network, uses a Geiger counter to examine the body of rancher Tim Garren's cow

A cattle was found mutilated on a ranch in northern Las Animas County last weekend, the third to be found in such a state this month.

The mutilated cow was owned by Jim Garren, and found at about 1:30 p.m. March 21 by his ranch manager on Garren's land located about 12.5 miles southeast of Walsenburg.

"Her udder had been surgically removed," Garren said. "And that's the extent...there wasn't any other trauma on the cow at all."

The two-and-a-half year old Kobe and Angus crossbreed had last been seen at feeding time the previous day. It had also given birth to a calf that night that was discovered hiding in the brush about 50 yards from the carcass.

Garren said that he noticed no tracks around the carcass. "No marks, no disturbance of any kind of the soil," he said. "She was partially underneath a juniper tree, and there was no breakage in the tree, no branches or anything; it just looked like the cow had laid down very peacefully; there was no trauma on the cow, on her head or any parts of her body, we could find zero holes."

Garren added, "There wasn't any blood around anywhere."

Asked if he was aware of the other cattle mutilations that have taken place around the county recently, Garren replied, "Yeah, I just didn't think it would happen to me; guess I got elected."

Garren contacted authorities after discovering the carcass and was put in touch with the local brand inspector.

The first of the new wave of cattle mutilations reported in Las Animas County occurred March 8 to a cow owned by Trinidad School District No. 1 instructor Mike Duran. That cow had been discovered by Duran lying dead on its side by a stream at his winter grazing pastures west of Weston, it's udder and uterus removed. The second mutilation, a week old calf, was discovered March 17 by owner Tom Miller on his ranch east of Hoehne.

Miller reported that the only things left on the calf was some hide, the forelegs and its neck and head. "All the rest of the organs were gone...you could look right into the ribcage and everything," Miller said during a previous interview, adding that the hipbones on the calf were also broken.

Miller and Duran both reported a previous mutilation as having occurred in their herds in the mid-to-late 1990s. Garren said the March 21 mutilation was his first.

"He probably picked my best bred heifer out of the whole herd," Garren said. "That's the way it goes; when you lose one it's your best one."

Through the county's brand inspector Garren was put in touch with Chuck Zukowski, a field investigator from the Mutual UFO Network who also investigated the Duran and Miller mutilations.

"What was interesting about the Garren mutilation is that the stomach tissue was still there," Zukowski said. "You figure if a predator would get it, it would not only go for the udder but also take the stomach tissue."

Zukowski noted that predators seemed to have gotten to the carcass somewhat the following night, but that pictures taken upon discovery of the carcass that afternoon showed it untouched.

"It was just completely incomprehensible how anything or a body, person or whatever would have the ability to do that without leaving some sort of signatures around," Garren said.

London Rabbi Seeks Help to Remove Ghost From New Residence

The Rabbinical Centre of Europe tackles complicated halachic questions sent by the rabbis of the continent on a daily basis. But nothing prepared the RCE for a recent query by a London rabbi, who sought the center's help in getting rid of a ghost he said was dwelling in his new residence.

The RCE's Response department in Israel, which provides halachic answers to the questions of European rabbis, was approached by Rabbi Levy Yitzhak Raskin of London on behalf of a fellow rabbi who asked not to be identified.

"In the last months he has noticed a foreign presence in his new home," Raskin described in his letter. "Closed windows have been opened; he's been hearing knocking, and so forth."

According to Raskin, when the distraught rabbi turned to his congregation for help, "they confirmed that these strange events have occurred in the past, and estimated that the noises were caused by the ghost of a rabbi… who was the synagogue's first rabbi and passed away 40 years ago, and is now seeking tikkun for his spirit."

According to the congregation members, the founding rabbi would occasionally visit the house in order to see how his community was doing.

Will prayers help?

Upon receiving this query RCE member Rabbi Mordechai Biton immediately forwarded it to Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar and Rabbi Yitzhak Batzri.

Rabbi Amar ruled that two tikkun prayers – one for the house and the other for the deceased rabbi's soul - should be recited in order to resolve the matter.

Rabbi Batzri offered to include the rabbi's name in his yeshiva's biannual tikkun prayers for the dead, or to instruct Rabbi Raskin how to hold such a prayer in London if necessary. "If this doesn't help, it's a sign that this is a different ghost that may be misleading them, and we'll discuss how to handle this later on."

Photo: Bizarre UFOs Captured Over London

London's about to be invaded by aliens - at least that's what it looks like in a bizarre picture taken from Google's Street View map service!

A British woman found the spooky image of a whole group of UFOs in the sky after the new Google service was launched last week.

Fay Sharpe (18) got more than she bargained for when she was trying to find her friends in her neighbourhood of Bethnal Green, East London on the online map – and came across some unidentified flying objects in the sky above Wolverley Street.

She told 'The Sun': “I was checking out the road to see if I could spot my mates. I thought it looked very strange and zoomed in.

"I thought it was some planes but they look pretty close together for that. Maybe they are UFOs.”

Ufologist Nick Pope is excited about the picture: “It appears to show nine objects flying in near perfect formation.

"About the only thing I know that can do this is the Red Arrows — and it’s not them.”

'Crook of Devon Witch Trials' Victims Shrine Being Constructed

Lord Moncrieff is building a 100ft maze in the grounds of his ancestral home at Tullibole Castle, near Kinross, to honor the victims of the notorious Crook of Devon Witch Trials.

In 1662, the stronghold’s then owner William Halliday presided over a court which sentenced a number of residents to death for supposedly striking a series of fiendish pacts with Satan.

Now Moncrieff is looking to right the historical wrong by constructing a Witches’ Maze with the names of the victims etched on an elaborate pillar at its heart.

But despite his sympathy for those persecuted in the name of King James VI’s witch hunts, the nobleman has no truck with superstition in any form. Moncrieff intends the hedged garden to become a shrine to secularism and rational thought.

He said, “Tullibole Castle, near the village of Crook of Devon, was once the home of William Halliday who, with his son John and three others, presided over a court that was responsible for one of the worst cases of witchcraft persecution that Scotland has ever seen.

“In 1662, the court sat five times, and those who survived their imprisonment and trial were taken to a mound, strangled by the hangman and their bodies thrown onto a fire. Sadly, there is nothing in the village to commemorate these people, so I decided to create a memorial maze in their honor.”

The heart of the labyrinth will feature a five-sided “pentagon pillar” bearing the names of those who were executed, as well as those who perished in jail before sentence was passed on them. But Moncrieff said he was determined for his project to have a wider significance.

“Instead of being a simple memorial I want it to work on several levels. The witches’ pillar will be protected by five stones, to symbolize the five trials, which are decorated with what I call ‘good’ words. These are words such as logic, justice, tolerance, truth and love, which were missing from Scottish society at the time of the trials.”

Mirroring this, the maze also features a series of dead ends, which will be marked with negative words such as superstition, hypocrisy, prejudice and ignorance.

Moncrieff said, “If you don’t use logic inside the maze you will come to a dead end.

“Appropriately, in this year of Darwin’s anniversary, the maze has evolved into a plea for people to think rationally. It is my intention that the memorial to the innocents will also be a damning attack on the ignorant and superstitious beliefs of the past as well as of the present day. My plan is to have other meanings and deeper symbolism in the maze, but I don’t want to explain it all at this stage.”

The keen historian and heritage enthusiast is determined that the memorial maze, which he plans to open to the public, will never be adopted by modern-day champions of the supernatural.

“I really don’t like how other memorials to victims of witch hunts in Salem in the US and Glastonbury in England have largely been taken over and adopted by people who believe in the supernatural.

“If society had not believed in the paranormal in the 1660s then these so-called ‘witches’ would not have been prosecuted. The maze will be open to everyone, but the symbolism inside makes it abundantly clear that it is very much in favor of rational thought over superstition.”

Moncrieff spends much of his spare time attempting to expose bogus psychics who he believes exploit vulnerable people.

But practicing witch and High Priestess of ‘The Hearth’ Coven in Glasgow, Pauline Reid, welcomed the memorial.

She said, “This sounds like an excellent way of honoring the memory of these victims of the witch hunts. Something like this is long overdue and I look forward to visiting it when it opens.”

The maze, which is expected to open in 2011, will be made up of more than 2,000 beech trees.

Between 1550 and 1700, thousands of women and men across Scotland were arrested, tortured and executed after being accused of indulging in witchcraft.

After witchcraft became illegal in Scotland in the 16th century, an army of ‘witch prickers’ were employed in a bid to encourage people to confess to being in league with the Devil.

If a person who was pricked with a sharp metal object didn’t bleed immediately it was taken as an infallible sign that they had made a covenant with ‘Auld Nick.’

The Scottish witch hunts declined after the 1660s when the elite of society began to take a more rational view of the world.

As a result, the witch prickers were exposed as frauds and the legal system began to reject evidence from them.

The last witch was executed in 1727 and the law was finally abolished in 1736. , near Kinross, to honor the victims of the notorious Crook of Devon Witch Trials.

In 1662, the stronghold’s then owner William Halliday presided over a court which sentenced a number of residents to death for supposedly striking a series of fiendish pacts with Satan.

Cultists Starve to Death 16-Month Old For Not Saying 'Amen'

Members of One Mind Ministries drew little notice in the working-class Baltimore neighborhood where they lived in a nondescript brick rowhouse.

But inside, prosecutors say, horrors were unfolding: Answering to a leader called Queen Antoinette, they denied a 16-month-old boy food and water because he did not say "Amen" at mealtimes. After he died, they prayed over his body for days, expecting a resurrection, then packed it into a suitcase with mothballs. They left it in a shed in Philadelphia, where it remained for a year before detectives found it last spring.

Tomorrow, five of the group's alleged members -- including the boy's mother, Ria Ramkissoon -- are scheduled to be tried in Baltimore on murder charges. Sources and Ramkissoon's mother said Ramkissoon, 22, has agreed to plead guilty to a lesser charge on one condition: The charges against her must be dropped if her son, Javon Thompson, is resurrected.

Psychiatrists who evaluated Ramkissoon at the request of a judge concluded that she was not criminally insane. Her attorney, Steven Silverman, said the doctors found that her beliefs were indistinguishable from religious beliefs, in part because they were shared by those around her.

"She wasn't delusional, because she was following a religion," Silverman said, describing the findings of the doctors' psychiatric evaluation.

At the time of Javon's death, thought to be in January 2007, One Mind numbered no more than a dozen adults and children. The group claimed to find authority for its beliefs in the Bible. New members surrendered cellphones and broke off contacts with friends and family, according to law enforcement officials and Silverman.

Silverman said he and prosecutors think Ramkissoon was brainwashed and should have been found not criminally responsible; prosecutors declined to comment. Although an inability to think critically can be a sign of brainwashing, experts said, the line between that and some religious beliefs can be difficult to discern.

"At times there can be an overlap between extreme religious conviction and delusion," said Robert Jay Lifton, a cult expert and psychiatrist who lectures at Harvard Medical School. "It's a difficult area for psychiatry and the legal system."

Ramkissoon's mother, Seeta Khadan-Newton, said she is concerned that Ramkissoon might remain in the thrall of One Mind and back out of the plea agreement at the last minute. "I'm so scared. I don't know what's going to come out of her mouth," Khadan-Newton said.

Under the agreement, Ramkissoon, known within the group as Princess Marie, would plead guilty to child abuse resulting in death and cooperate with prosecutors. The murder charge would be dropped, and prosecutors would recommend probation and treatment.

The Pentagon Plans to Regenerate Soldiers' Limbs / Tissue

The first phase of the Pentagon's plan to regrow soldiers' limbs is complete; scientists managed to turn human skin into the equivalent of a blastema — a mass of undifferentiated cells that can develop into new body parts. Now, researchers are on to phase two: turning that cellular glop into a square inch of honest-to-goodness muscle tissue.

Cellthera Inc. and the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) just got a one-year, $570,000 grant from Darpa, the Pentagon's blue-sky research arm, to grow the new tissues. "The goal is to genuinely replace a muscle that's lost," biotechnology professor Raymond Page tells Danger Room. "I appreciate that's a very aggressive goal." And it's only one part in a larger, even more ambitious Darpa program, Restorative Injury Repair, that aims to "fully restore the function of complex tissue (muscle, nerves, skin, etc.) after traumatic injury on the battlefield."

Muscles are, of course, famous for their ability to regenerate; they're broken down and rebuilt with every gym workout. But when too much of a muscle is lost — either from injury or illness — "instead of the regenerative response, you get scarring," Page says. He's hoping to get a different result, by carefully growing fresh muscle, outside the body.

Step one will be trying to get those undifferentiated cells to turn into something like muscle cells. That means making sure the cells have myosin and actin — two proteins that are key to forming the cellular cytoskeleton, and to building muscle filaments. Then, Page and his team will try to get those cells to form around a scaffolding of tiny threads, made of biomaterial. Exactly what will be in thread, Page isn't quite sure — maybe collagens, maybe fibrinogens. It's one of many mysteries to unravel, as his team tries to grow body parts from scratch.

Video: Alleged UFO Landing - Senelnikovo, Ukraine

UFO landing filmed Ukraine
Statement with video:

A truly amazing UFO story has emerged from the Ukraine involving a veteran UFO hunter and some very confused townsfolk.

The residents of the Ukrainian town of Senelnikovo in the Dnepropetrovsk region had been seeing strange objects in the sky for weeks and were at a loss as to explain what they were. Many were suspecting that they were UFOs controlled by aliens. Talk of a UFO landing base near the Black Sea had been going on for decades.

A town resident called on a team of Ufologists headed by Mr Vladislav Kanuka, a veteran Ufologist with decades of experience, for help.

The Ufologists arrived at the scene last month and waited with a video camera near the railway station, a spot where many had seen the UFOs from.

The Ufologists struck gold and at least one UFO did not disappoint them. A very bright pink orb was seen and the Ufologist agreed it was following a controlled trajectory. They managed to capture the craft on film as it landed in nearby woods.

On realising the object had landed they made a rush for the landing spot but midway the engines of all three cars they were travelling in conked out! When they managed to restart the engines the cars started sinking in mud. They were only able to reach the site in the morning and found no evidence of the landing.

Now the discs are seen by residents almost every day and once panicky residents are no longer scared: they have accepted that aliens use a spot near their town as a UFO landing base.

Maryland Paranormal Group Serious About Ghost Hunting

<-- This photo taken by Kim from Salisbury shows what Kim calls a "small, non-
transparent orb" on her camera in the backyard of Poplar Hill Mansion in Salisbury

Rodney Whittaker couldn't wait to develop the film on his disposable camera.

Invited out for a night of "ghost hunting" with friends a few years ago, the former Northrup Grumman logistics specialist was intrigued by the images others were getting on their digital cameras.

"I never believed in ghosts. I was the biggest skeptic there ever was," said Whittaker.

When the prints came back he was surprised to find ... absolutely nothing. That intrigued him ever more.

"So now I'm frustrated and determined," he said, laughing. "Now I'm going back out there."

Whittaker signed on for another investigation a week later in an old cemetery built on a Civil War skirmish site.

This time, what he got on his camera turned him into a believer.

"We knew there was a hanging tree at that site, and I got what looked like ropes draped over some of the tombstones," he said. "I was so shocked I went back the next day to see if there was a logical explanation. That's what got me. Now I wanted to study it more."

Whittaker read up on paranormal investigations, bought expensive electronic equipment and formed the Maryland Society of Ghost Hunters. The group now has about 50 members and studies hauntings in Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

In February, Whittaker's central Maryland group spun off an Eastern Shore Chapter with about 20 members interested in studying the spirits of the peninsula. Kim from Salisbury (she prefers not to use her last name), began ghost hunting with the group six months ago.

"I've always been interested in the paranormal. Where is this dimension, how are these people there? It's always been a scientific curiosity." said Kim. "So when I saw there was a public investigation at Poplar Hill Mansion, I went."

The group recorded no unusual activity inside the Salisbury landmark that night, but Kim caught what she calls a "small, non-transparent orb" on her camera in the backyard. Since then, she's seen and heard plenty to keep her coming back.

"We try to find reasons for what people claim are unusual activities and in some cases we say, we don't have any evidence of a haunting or a spirit here," said Kim. "But we do find things."

She has a recording from an investigation in Fruitland that she believes is the spirit of a man and a young boy.

"He said 'help me' ... and the child says 'daddy,'" she said.

Both investigators believe interest in the paranormal has picked up because of cable shows devoted to the subject. Whittaker said believing in ghosts is no longer taboo.

"Years ago, if you said you had a ghost, people thought you were crazy," he said. "Now more people are willing to come out and tell you their ghost experiences."

The Maryland Society of Ghost Hunters tries to schedule at least one investigation a week, said Whittaker, and will investigate any haunting free of charge for anyone who calls. All information is confidential.

"Some people like the fact that they have activity and they don't mind sharing it," he said. "But if you have a business, like a hotel, you may not want that information out there."

Supposed Piece of UFO Revealed After 30 Years

It's been 30 years since Greg Kirby, of Middletown, lied to local police officers and federal agents when asked if he turned over all the unidentified pieces he found in Blue Ball.

Today, he doesn't sound scared: "Let them come and get me."

Or, as he said a bit later, "I hope I can get home safely without those guys in the dark sunglasses pulling me out of the car and throwing me in the back seat." He was only half-kidding.

Thirty years ago today, Kirby, then a 21-year-old minding his own business, found himself embroiled in the middle of controversy and UFO speculation when he watched a white-hot mystery object fall in Blue Ball.

Kirby was driving north on Old Ohio 25 about

7:30 p.m. on March 29, 1979, when he saw the fireball go down in a parking lot at the Robin Springs apartment complex.

After the pieces cooled off, he called Middletown police, and turned over "all" the items to Federal Aviation Administration officials.

Stories about the fireball mystery made headlines for several days in The Journal, Dayton Daily News and Cincinnati Enquirer. Kirby was interviewed by three local television stations and received a phone call from ABC News in New York.

"It was a mystery with capital letters," Kirby said.

A UFO buff from Maryland drove to Middletown and visited him, and a man from Kentucky asked Kirby if they were long-lost cousins.

Thirty years ago, Kirby said his only regret is that he didn't keep a piece of the metal as a memento.

Now he tells a different tale.

Kirby, 51, who calls himself "a hippie," recently came forward and admitted he still owns one lightweight piece — smaller than a dime — and it's for sale. He said his mother recently gave him the item after his father, Thomas Kirby, a Franklin and Springboro attorney, passed away.

"Cha-ching, cha-ching," Kirby said when asked the item's value. "If this really is as rare as they say, and rarity is the key component of economic, this is worth a lot of money."

Kirby said a rich investor — he kept mentioning Bill Gates — may want to buy the item, then donate it to a university or space museum.

Kirby won't give it away.

"The bottom line," he said, "is it's for sale."

He wants someone — anyone — to definitely tell him the origin of the item.

"The one person I know who won't tell me works for the United States government," he said.

He recently spoke with a friend who worked for Aeronca Inc., a company that built airplanes in Middletown. The man specialized in honeycomb patterns and the man said he never had seen anything that resembled the item.

"That's what they all say," Kirby said.

When Kirby first discovered the items, he said many people didn't believe him.

"For many years," he said, "there was a lot ridicule."

He was an admitted "prankster" who was known to set off cherry bombs from time to time.

Police, he said, knew him by his first name.

As Kirby told childhood tales, he smiled and said: "I wish these things would have been found by a carload of nuns. It would have been more credible."

Boston Latin School Headmaster 'No Vampires At Our School'

The headmaster of one of the city's most prestigious exam schools is dealing with an unusual rumor sweeping student classrooms.

There are no vampires at Boston Latin School, says headmaster Lynne Moone Teta.

Seriously.

Students at the school, which was founded in 1635, began e-mailing news organizations Wednesday night with the strange story of vampires roaming the halls.

"Supposedly 3 students believe that they are vampires and today when a student was bitten the police were informed," wrote one student in a message to TheBostonChannel.com. "I heard that one girl was arrested another suspended."

Police, however, denied reports that anyone at the school was bitten.

The rumors were strong enough to cause anxiety among the student body and disrupt classes on Thursday.

"I seek your cooperation in redirecting your energy toward the learning objectives of the day. Please do not sensationalize or discuss these rumors," Teta wrote in a notice obtained by the Boston Globe and sent to faculty, students and parents.

Teta said she was concerned that some students' safety might be jeopardized because of the rumors.

"At no time was anyone's safety in jeopardy," she wrote.

In its long, rich history the school's students have included revolutionary firebrands Ben Franklin, Sam Adams, John Hancock, but likely never vampires.

Boston police acknowledged visiting the school Wednesday after learning about the rumors.

"We did go over there and speak to some of the students and quelled the rumors that were going and kind of told them the effect those rumors could have on the rest of the student population," spokesman Eddy Chrispin said.

Interest in vampires among young people has been rekindled in the past year with the release of the hit movie "Twilight". It tells the story of a teenage girl who falls in love with a vampire.

The movie, which stars teen heart throb Robert Pattinson, was released on DVD last weekend. The DVD sold 13 million copies on its first day of sales, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Photo: UFO Captured From Airliner - Black Sea, Turkey

The description of the sighting is as follows:

Date: January 10th, 2009

Where: I was in flight going from London (Heathrow International) to Doha, Qatar (Doha International), so I was above Turkey (according to GPS in flight, near Black Sea) when I took these pictures.

Time: Local time (of Turkey) should be between 12 PM to 1 PM.

Events: Well, to be honest, while taking the snaps, you can see the sun was so bright, that in fact, I was just taking the snaps of the Black Sea and there were just a few clouds; so, I did not had any idea that any flying object was there nor could I see anything beyond the Sea because of the brightness of the sun.

When I copied the pictures to my computer, then I came to know that an object was there in the pictures. By the way, I was the only one sitting with the window open on my side (the whole right side) as everyone was sleeping.

I have a passion to see different countries, so I was taking random pictures here and there during whole of my trip. So, I had collected pictures of so many countries (from flight), but I never saw any object like this one in any of other pictures of my trip.

It will be great if I will come to know anything about these objects. Thanks very much again.

Mr. M

Eerie Image Of Ghost Has Experts Baffled

An eerie image of a figure at a Scottish castle has got ghost experts spooked.

The scary shot was unearthed during the biggest ever investigation into photographic evidence of ghosts.

The picture, taken in May last year, shows a spectral figure in fifteenth century dress peering out of a barred window at Tantallon Castle in Fife.

No mannequins or costumed guides are used at the castle and photo experts have confirmed that no digital trickery was used.

Even ghost sceptic Professor Richard Wiseman admitted to being puzzled.

“It is certainly very curious,” he said.

“We ran it by three photographic experts and they said it hadn’t been Photoshopped at all.

“The figure appears to be in period costume, but we know 100 per cent that Tantallon Castle is not the sort of place that has dummies or costumed guides; they just don’t go in for that sort of thing.

“I suppose it could be a visitor looking a little bit strange. Perhaps someone will come forward. Another possibility is an odd reflection of sunlight, but it does look very like a person. The explanation is not obvious.”

Tantallon Castle, a ruined fortress dating back to the 14th century, stands on a remote rocky headland near North Berwick on the East coast of Scotland. It was badly damaged in an attack by Oliver Cromwell’s forces in 1651.

Christopher Aitchison, who took the photo, said: “I was not aware of anyone, or anything, being present in my picture."

Psychologist Prof Wiseman, from the University of Hertfordshire, who has made many studies of the supernatural, launched the investigation a month ago.

Strange Night In New Zealand Mountain Retreat

Mt Cook village residents are stumped but not spooked by recent supernatural experiences in the national park's oldest mountain hut.

Mountain guides, visitor centre employees, a helicopter pilot and a cafe manager have all reported paranormal experiences in and around the old hut high up on the Hooker Glacier.

The Hooker hut was built nearly 100 years ago, is a three-hour walk from the visitor centre and sits about 1100 metres above Mt Cook village.

Department of Conservation (DOC) mountain guide Jane Morris and visitor centre assistant Monica Yeoman experienced the surreal when they spent the night of their lives in the hut last Friday.

Ms Morris said she understands their account of paranormal activity could be cause for ridicule.

However, she believes there has been a lack of investigation into the countless reports of spooky happenings in the hut.

Both of them explained the spooky happenings in and around the hut and the lack of investigation surrounding events.

The pair left the village after work and arrived at the hut around dusk on March 20. It wasn't until they had finished dinner and hopped into their sleeping bags that things started to rattle in the night.

"We'd only been in bed for about 15 minutes when I heard footsteps on the deck outside," Ms Morris said.

"It sounded like someone was unloading a pack.

"The noise was constant until I heard the sound of an ice axe hitting the corrugated iron.

"It certainly wasn't an animal as the disturbance sounded organised."

Ms Yeoman had woken by that stage and both went outside to look around only to discover nothing.

After returning to bed, it was only a matter of five minutes before both women heard what they described as the sound of pots clanging.

It was a sleepless night for both of them after that as the relentless sound of clanging and shuffling continued.

"The noises were quite purposeful," Ms Morris said.

Both of them admitted to being "freaked out" initially but agreed the experience was intriguing once they got use to the noises.

They left the hut the following morning to continue the day hike and returned in the afternoon to retrieve some gear.

Ms Morris said she felt a presence on her return to the hut although it wasn't menacing.

Both women said they are keen to return to the hut to discount any skepticism.

For more than 50 years, there have been numerous reports of paranormal activities at Hooker hut.

Peter Graham outlined his experience with the ghost of Hooker hut in Mick Bowie's book The Hermitage Years. Graham was the proprietor of the Glacier Hotel at the Franz Josef Glazier for many years and his infamous tale was often told in the light of an open fire late in the evening.

The original hut was built in 1910 and rebuilt in 1948.

On its original site, it was visible from the Hermitage and was considered quite a landmark.

However, in 1963 it was moved back intact some 40 metres on to new foundations, away from ominous cracks in the crumbling moraine wall and out of sight from the Hermitage.

Scientist Gets Experimental Vaccine After Ebola Accident

It was a nightmare scenario: A scientist accidentally pricked her finger with a needle used to inject the deadly Ebola virus into lab mice. Within hours, members of a tightly bound, yet far-flung community of virologists, biologists and others were tensely gathered in a trans-Atlantic telephone conference trying to map out a way to save her life.

Less than 24 hours later, an experimental vaccine — never before tried on humans — was on its way to Germany from a lab in Canada.

And within 48 hours of the March 12 accident, the at-risk scientist, a 45-year-old woman whose identity has not been revealed, was injected with the vaccine.

So far, so good. If the woman is still healthy by Thursday, she can consider herself safe.

Ebola hemorrhagic fever, seen mostly only in Africa, is one of the world's most feared diseases. It begins with flu-like symptoms, followed by bloody diarrhea and vomiting. Days later, some victims begin bleeding through the nose, mouth and eyes. Depending on the strain of virus, it can kill up to 90 percent of victims.

There is no cure. The virus is spread through direct contact with the blood or secretions of an infected person.

Dr. Stephan Guenther, head of the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg, where the researcher was working, said tests so far show the scientist is healthy and free of the virus.

The peak period for an outbreak during the 21-day Ebola incubation period passed this week, he said.

"We are now on the downside," Guenther told The Associated Press, noting that with each passing day the chance of infection taking root diminishes.

It's not entirely clear the researcher was actually infected with the virus. At the time of the accident, she was wearing three layers of protective gloves, and though the needle stuck her, the plunger of the syringe was not pushed so it's not certain the virus entered her bloodstream.

That means scientists may never know if the vaccine worked or she was just lucky.

There are two other known accidents involving researchers who came into direct contact with a similar strain of Ebola. A Russian researcher died, and a British scientist became ill but survived.

After the needle stick, Guenther knew he had to act swiftly.

He rushed an e-mail to fellow scientists in the Ebola research community. One was Dr. Heinz Feldmann, chief of the virology laboratory at the Rocky Mountain Laboratories, a U.S. National Institutes of Health research facility in Hamilton, Mont.

"We considered this as serious as (the Russian) case, in terms of the exposure," Feldmann told the AP in a telephone interview last weekend.

Feldmann was part of an international group of experts from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, the Canadian Public Health Agency, Boston University and the University of Texas Medical Branch.

Feldmann, Guenther and several other experts took part in the teleconference debating the options. These included a live vaccine never before tried on humans, another treatment designed to interfere with the virus' ability to multiply, or an anticoagulant that Army research found had saved the lives of monkeys exposed to Ebola.

The option that emerged as the strongest was the vaccine, which had been developed by Feldmann and collaborating researchers at several institutions. Much of the key work was done about nine years ago at a microbiology research lab run by the Canadian government in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where Feldmann worked at the time.

Although the vaccine is based on a different kind of virus, researchers used genetic engineering to make the virus look like Ebola, triggering an immune system response.

In a 2008 study, Feldmann and other researchers showed that when given 20 minutes after a lethal dose of Ebola virus, four of eight monkeys survived. There were no side effects, Feldmann said.

"The group came very swiftly to agreement that this vaccine would be the best ... because it had showed an effectiveness when used after exposure," Guenther said.

In the end, the scientist whose life was at risk made the decision herself. She took the vaccine about 48 hours after the accident. Within 12 hours, she had a headache, muscle pain and a fever, but recovered quickly.

"Those are normal reactions to live attenuated vaccines," Feldmann said.

While future study of the woman's immune response may help to clarify whether the vaccine saved her life or she was never infected with Ebola in the first place, it will most likely remain open to interpretation.

Either way, Feldmann said scientists cannot draw conclusions about the experimental vaccine's safety or effectiveness.

There's a long history of researchers testing vaccines on themselves or people close to them. Edward Jenner, the English physician who first invented a smallpox vaccine, included his own son among the children he first gave the immunization. And Jonas Salk, an inventor of polio vaccine, reportedly gave the vaccine to himself and his entire family before making it public.

This case is somewhat different. Using the experimental vaccine, "was to save her life, that was the priority," Feldmann said. It might have been five years or more before it was tried on humans because of additional animal studies and production issues, he added.

Guenther expressed hope the case would attract funding for more research in the field of such vaccines.

"Of course, we can't just go to Africa, now that we have seen such a vaccine went well when used on a human," Guenther said.

"Perhaps this will be like a little push, where one says, yes, it's possible. Everything that we are doing on an experimental level can actually be put into practice."

Two More Mutilated Cows Reported In Southern Colorado

Two more Southern Colorado ranchers say they have discovered cows mutilated under strange circumstances.

A cow on a ranch near Walsenburg was found with its udders cut off and a calf on a ranch near Trinidad was found missing the entire center of its body as well as its ears.

A similar mutilation was discovered March 8 on a pasture near the Purgatoire River, just west of the small town of Weston. That cow was found dead by rancher Mike Duran with its udders and reproductive organs surgically removed from its body.

The most recent case happened on Jim Garren's ranch.

Garren said Tuesday that he last saw his cow alive on Friday afternoon at his spread 12 miles southeast of Walsenburg in Las Animas County. Garren said the next day at around 2:30 p.m. his ranch manager was feeding the herd and noticed his cattle count was off by one. After looking around in areas where cows had grazed previously, Garren said his ranch hand spotted the animal dead under a cedar tree.

"The only thing that we could tell about her was that her udder had been surgically removed. There were no other injuries to that cow," Garren said.

He said the ground around the cow was never disturbed and there was no trauma to the cow's head or body.

"We searched and searched and we could not find blood on the ground or on the cow. I just can't understand how anyone could surgically remove a part from an animal and not spill some blood," he said.

Garren said that while doing a quick walk around looking for evidence on Saturday, his staff spotted the cow's newborn calf.

Garren said the calf had to have been born at least 10 hours before the mother cow was killed.

"You know I just can't explain this. I've had animals killed on my ranch by mountain lions before and coyotes, but nothing like this. It is truly strange.

"I don't see how any human could have possibly done this without leaving footprints or some prints where the cow may have struggled. It looks like she just laid down and died," Garren said.

Rancher Tom Miller, who runs 80 head of cattle about 14 miles east of Trinidad on U.S. 350, found one of his calves dead near a feed tub on March 17. He found it in an area where cows congregate to eat twice daily.

Miller said that the herd appeared normal the day before in the late afternoon when the animals were being fed by the ranchers. The calf was found the next morning roughly 5 feet from a feed tub laying dead with only its spinal column, head and legs left behind.

"It's the strangest thing I've ever seen," Miller said.

Miller said the only thing holding the calve's back legs to the body was the hide.

"I cut the hide and the legs just fell off. All the bones were broken. It was just strange," Miller said. "An animal just doesn't clean out a carcass like that in one night. It would take several days to do something like that."

Miller said about 10 years ago he found another one of his cows mutilated. That cow had its ears, tongue, eyes and reproductive organs removed.

In 1995, Duran said he found a cow that had been mutilated on his property in a similar way.

The mutilations never have been solved.

"I really don't know what it is. I think maybe it was a UFO. According to the circumstances, that is what it seems like," Miller said.

Miller said it would be too difficult for a human to take a calf away from its mother cow.

"The cows are too protective. If you went for a calf, the cow would be on top of you.

"There are just too many strange things here," Miller said.

Chuck Zukowski, an independent UFO investigator from Colorado Springs, has investigated all three cattle mutilations in the area.

"These mutilations have the tendency of happening a few at a time. So it is not uncommon that there are three here this month," Zukowski said.

Zukowski, who has been a UFO and cow mutilation investigator for more than 20 years, said that all three cases fit the criteria to be called an unknown phenomenon.

"These two cows and this calf do not fit the norm of a normal death or a predator death. This is the first thing we look at," Zukowski said.

In all three cases, Zukowski said there was no blood around the cattle where they laid.

"If a predator got to these cattle, there would be blood around somewhere, " he said.

Sightings of UFOs and strange, unmarked, black helicopters sometimes coincide with most cattle mutilation cases across the country.

Zukowski said that the night Miller lost his calf, he received a report of a dark triangular craft flying over Colorado Springs.

"A witness told me that the craft was coming from the southeast. That means it was coming from the Walsenburg/Trinidad area. We are in the process of trying to understand how fast this object was going to see if it could have been in that area," Zukowski said.

"It's a big speculation and we are trying to grasp at straws, but we are trying to find anything we can to relate these occurrences."

Zukowski said that whatever killed the cow and removed the udders on Garren's ranch was not interested in a newborn calf.

"Would a predator attack a 1,200 pound animal for food, when a newborn calf lay helplessly 50 feet away?" Zukowski asked.

Zukowski also is a member of the Mutual UFO Network, an international nonprofit group that investigates UFOs and other strange phenomena for the public.

"I am the biggest skeptic to start with on these cases. I need to be sure before I start saying what I think it is.

"I can tell you that it is very strange and doesn't seem possible by humans," Zukowski said.

The thousands of reported cattle mutilations in the United States and around the world have spawned theories about aliens sent to Earth to slice up cows.

The phenomena in Colorado began in the late 1960s when farmers in the San Luis Valley began reporting mutilated cattle and horses, Zukowski said.

The circumstances surrounding cattle mutilations were different than anything the local authorities had ever investigated. At the time, satanic cults were blamed.

Reports of cattle mutilations spread throughout the Midwest and even into Canada. Paranoia and speculation about the deaths ran rampant.

"All these years later not one person has been prosecuted for this. We don't know what has killed these animals," Zukowski said.

"Hopefully we can find out what happened, but it doesn't look too promising. This is not something we are used to," Garren said.

"I really hope somebody can figure out what is happening to these things. It's scary," Miller said.

Russian Woman Axed, Cannibalized Friend While Son Watched!

A cannibal mum axed a friend to death, cooked her body and ate the meat — while the killer’s young son looked on.

Olesya Mostovschikova, 27, told police she rowed with Tatiana Romanchuk, 32, during a booze-up.

Officer Oleg Lobach said Olesya calmly told cops: “I took the axe and hit her a number of times on her head.

“Then I cut off her ears, gouged out one eye, cut off an arm and a hand. I then cooked the parts in the oven.”

Another friend, who is being treated as a witness, claims that she was forced to eat the flesh.

Cops say Olesya’s son, seven, witnessed the murder and the cooking. He is now in care.

Locals at Irkutsk, in Siberia, Russia, found Tatiana’s legs in a rubbish bin.

Giant Armoured Suckermouth Catfish Found in British Canal

The prehistoric creature has scaly skin similar to a crocodile and an impressive set of teeth.

It was found, already dead, by schoolboy fisherman Shawn Brown in the Grand Union Canal at Wigston.

The 14-year-old took a picture of his 10 ins-long discovery and showed it to a number of aquarists who managed to identify it.

The armoured suckermouth catfish normally lives in Panama, Costa Rica and South America.

Experts say it is the first time one has been found in our waterways.

It is thought to have been released into the canal after growing too big for somebody's aquarium but could not survive in the colder water.

John Hall, who runs All Seasons Angling tackle shop in Wigston, said: "We are only 300 yards from where Shawn found it and he came in here and showed me the photo. He is a good little fisherman and as soon as he saw it knew it didn't belong here.

"He went home and looked it up on the internet to try and see what it was but he had to send it off to experts to identify it.

"It had teeth as well and I'm sure it was scare a lot of anglers who saw it swimming up river. But it looks worse than it actually is."

The armoured suckermouth catfish – Hypostomus plecostomus in Latin – are herbivores and use their distinctive mouths to hoover up algae off rocks.

Their tough armoured plating acts as a defence mechanism to ward off predators in tropical waters.

They pose no threat to humans although it is not known what effect they would have on native fish if they were to ever breed here.

Ian Wellby, a fisheries scientist at Brooksby College, Leics, said: "It is not something you want in your freshwaters but it is quite harmless.

"It is the first one I have ever heard of in Britain before. It is a warm water fish and could not survive our winters."
