Documentary: 'We Are the Aliens'

Are we the aliens? Huge swarms of extraterrestrial space clouds are drifting throughout the universe. Was Earth seeded by a cloud of "alien dust" ?

The focus of this episode is indeed on extraterrestrials, but more specifically it is about extraterrestrial micro organisms. Nothing is mentioned about 2 legged humanoid alien greys or reptilians.

Nevertheless, this is still an entertaining & thought provoking look into the idea of extraterrestrial micro organisms that may have showered the planet and other areas of our universe. This process, known as Panspermia, is a solid theory on how life may spread throughout the universe, and how possibly life may have originated here on planet Earth.

In fact, an event on Earth may be proof of the Panspermia theory. In the year 2000, a popular story made news headlines about a strange phenomena occurring in India. It was labeled as the "Red Rain". Indeed, it was raining red, and in some parts of India, the rain was intensely red. The Red Rain event is discussed in great detail throughout the documentary.

The idea that our galaxy is teeming with life is played with and supported by expert opinion. It makes for a compelling watch. After watching it you will be surprised at how well designed bacteria may be for space travel, given the extreme environments these micro organisms are able to survive in.

For example, they have found exotic micro organisms in a nuclear reactor. Yes, living inside of a nuclear reactor. "It was living in this highly alkaline water, in the prescense of spent nuclear fuel rods, growing in the water and on the rods... their primary food source was the stainless steel on these rods".

As a nice treat, there is also an inside look into the development of a NASA robot for an upcoming mission to Jupiter's moon, Europa. This underwater space probe is apparently being designed to hunt for microorganisms in the huge ocean beneath Europa's encompassing ice mantle.

One has to question however, NASA's intention to send a space probe to Europa without the ability to find larger organisms. Anything could be under the surface, let alone tiny micro life. Fish, whales, or even exotic creatures not known to man could exist in an alien ocean ecosystem.

One thing of interest, that surprisingly was not included in this BBC documentary, is the recovered Mars meteorite of 1996. Initially announced by NASA scientists as proof of extraterrestrial life, it has been the subject of controversy ever since ( NASA = Never A Straight Answer ). The subject seems to be right on the topic of this show. Other meteor rocks are examined for their biological properties, however, the Mars meteorite incident is not given any mention. Perhaps BBC wanted to avoid some controversy, or maybe they just didn't have the time to include it.

Overall it was a satisfying documentary on the topic of Panspermia and the concept of extraterrestrial micro life. In the end, they take a relatively firm position that Red Rain is not extraterrestrial. They do however, allow for one scientist to state his opposing opinion: that indeed the Red Rain over india is extraterrestrial.

"If You think there is not other life in our universe, think again."
