Investigating the Ghostly Midland Canal Tunnels

A paranormal investigation is to be launched to see whether there really are ghostly goings on in spooky Midland canal tunnels.

A team of experts from the West Midlands Ghost Club will be hunting for creatures that go bump in the night during the probe at canal tunnels surrounding Dudley’s Black Country Living Museum.

“Much emphasis has been put on the ghostly history of this site over recent years,” said club spokesman, John Conway.

“However, this forthcoming visit will actually be the first serious investigation being carried out by an independent research group.”

He said unlike some other ghost groups, the West Midlands club is made up of both those who believe in the paranormal and those who are more sceptical.

“Our investigations are purposefully carried out in a purely objective, no-nonsense manner – casting off all of the New Age bunkum and pseudo-scientific trappings,” added Mr Conway.

“We have no interest in either proving the existence of the paranormal or disproving it. We also do not endorse the use of psychics or mediums.”

He said the group’s motivation was “refreshingly honest” and purely research based.

He said the group will work with members from the Dudley Canal Trust to carry out the investigation between 8pm and midnight on Friday.

They will record video footage and tape the sounds coming from the canals during the investigation.

The club, which was launched almost 20 years ago, has carried out more than 100 similar investigations across the Midlands.

Many members of the group have also appeared as experts of TV programmes such as Most Haunted.
