Unknown Creature Washes Ashore at Montauk Island, New York

Something strange has washed ashore at Montauk Island, New York.

“This is an actual monster, some sort of rodent-like creature with a dinosaur beak. A tipster says that there is ‘a government animal testing facility very close by in Long Island,’” says Gawker.com in a posting for Tuesday, July 29, 2008.

We'll keep an eye on this one. Hopefully there will be some disclosure soon.

My god it's a baby Gryphon! Either mythical animals exist in Nature, or someone's trying to recreate them.

I strongly recommend saving this picture and view it using a graphics editor (like picasa (go to google) or photoshop). When you zoom in on it, you can get some more detail. Having veterinary assistant experience, and living by a beach, here's what I noticed:
1st - I can see no evidence of tampering with the photo. I have adjusted lightness, highlights, shadows, and colors, and can't see anything that indicates the photo is faked.
2nd - Take note of how the sand has washed away from the body. Specifically above the head and above the left hind leg. I have seen this many times, and is caused by the waves washing the sand as the tide goes out. This body, or fake body was there at high tide, and remained as the tide went out.
3rd - Look at how the body seems to be sunburned on top and water-logged on the lower half of the body. This I have also seen before on dead, beached animals, very typical of a body floating on the water for days.
4th - There is something wrapped or tied around the front right leg. This is in the exact same spot that a bandage would be applied for an IV. When a dog gets an IV, that is almost the exact same spot it would go, usually in the right leg as well. I can not tell if it is a bandage or some other debris, but it makes you wonder...
5th - The lower jaw appears to be much like a canine's. You can see molars, and the canine tooth. Except in this case the canine seems to jut out to the side more than normal.
If this is a fake or a hoax, it is an exceptionally well done hoax. Considering the photo does not look faked, the body would have had to have been created with the details that I mentioned (possible), placed on the beach before high tide (possible), and then photographed after high tide (also possible). I would like to know what happened to the body or where it ended up.

I think it's a turtle that's missing it's shell.

Turtrles dont lose their shells. Their spines are attached to their shells, only in cartoons do they get in and outta shells. Baby Gryphon was also my first thought.. genetics lab nearby, mysterious Montauk and the notorious Project Rainbow, time travel and opening of other dimentions. You have to realize that with all the scientific breakthroughs weve had in the last hundred years, living in the genetic era, there are government labs cloning, modifying, and tampering with genetic materials. A zombie virus has already been created, a last resort "population control" method, while VP's would hide out and survive. Montauk has a closed down airforce base overgrown with grasses and plants like you'd expect from such a place, yet has still active, modern security cameras, elevator shafts 3quarters of a mile deep filled with concrete to keep people from finding the lower levels.. Someone still operates there, and underground, partially underwater/offshore genetic research facility.
